Highstreet heralds the arrival of the holiday season with one of the biggest and most spectacular Christmas celebrations in the Fraser Valley.
The annual event attracts visitors and locals from all over ‘the Valley’ and beyond to this unique open-air shopping centre, located at 3122 Mt Lehman Road in Abbotsford.
Once again, men, women and children of all ages will fill Highstreet’s Central Plaza to watch as the 65ft Christmas tree (one of Canada’s tallest Christmas trees) comes to life with thousands of digital lights, choreographed to holiday tunes.
BC’s best marching band, talented dancers, holiday characters, Spandy Andy, and of course the jolly man in the red suit himself will be there to make his grand debut. Tip: Come early for convenient parking underground and to grab a bite to eat and/or get some of your Christmas shopping done!
This event is on our holiday bucket list for a reason. You don’t want to miss out!
But the holiday show isn’t the only event on Highstreet’s holiday roster. Here are just 5 more reason to drop by this season. (Make sure to read all the way to the bottom for your chance at winning a $50 gift card to Highstreet!)
1. Holiday Show (Every Saturday, Nov. 21 to Dec. 19 from 5-6 p.m.)
Missed the Tree Lighting Ceremony & Santa’s Arrival on Nov. 21st? That’s OK! The Holiday Show, featuring the MEI marching band, Project Dance dancer and Santa, returns every Saturday to Central Plaza at Highstreet. The kiddies will love it and so will you!
2.Santa Photos ( Nov. 22 to Dec. 23)
Children of all ages are invited to drop off a letter to Santa at Highstreet’s big, red mailbox, located in the Post Office at London Drugs. For every letter collected, Highstreet will donate a can of food to the Abbotsford Food Bank. Isn’t that amazing? So grab go ahead and start making that list and checking it twice Valleyites. I’m hoping for a box of wine and world peace. But don’t delay! Letters must be received by December 15th in time to reach the North Pole.
4. Gift Wrap & Personal Shopping (Nov. 22 to Dec. 24)
Too lazy to wrap your gifts? Heck, I know I hate fiddling with gift wrap and bows. And don’t get me started on the tape situation. Fortunately for people like myself, Highstreet is offering complimentary gift wrapping services ALL SEASON LONG with a donation to the Salvation Army Kettle Drive. Drop by their holiday station in Marshall’s Lobby (East end). There’s also a personal shopping service available at Guest Services. Gift cards are also available at Guest Services – these are sure to come in handy for that person on your list who seems to have it all.
5. Ugly Sweater Christmas Sweater Contest ( Nov. 15 to Dec. 15)
Wondering what to do with that hideous holiday sweater hanging in the back of your closet? What you could do is gather your family and friends and send Highstreet your best ugly Christmas sweater photo. Share the photo on Instagram with #HOLIDEOUS or submit your photo by email to firstname.lastname@example.org for your chance to win a $500 shopping spree. I know I could do some serious damage over at Sephora with a prize like this. The campaign supports the Salvation Army. With every photo submitted, you’re encouraged to make a donation to the Red Kettle Drive.
