Why Cotton Tail Cottage is the Perfect Getaway

For the past 15 years that Jason and I have been together, we’ve always spent a weekend in the summer camping at Cultus Lake.

Unfortunately, with the timing of my new job and being unable to match up our holidays, camping was out of the question this year.

I could have probably just taken the girls on my own, but there was no way I’d ever have the patience to do all that packing, unpacking and setting up equipment without Jason. Hats off to all you Valley Moms who do.

Instead, my girls, mom and myself spent three incredibly relaxing days at the most charming and luxurious cottage I have ever had the pleasure of staying at — Cotton Tail Cottage.

There was no need to pitch a tent, blow up an air mattress or spend days packing for this haven in the woods.

Here are just five reasons why this Valley Mom thinks Cotton Tail Cottage is the perfect family getaway or weekend retreat.

1- Close to home…. but not too close!

We love visiting Cultus as it’s less than an hour from home for us in Langley–and just 90 minutes from downtown Vancouver. Although it’s just a short commute from the city, it truly feels like you’re a world away. If lush green forest, calm freshwater lake, breathtaking mountain views, clean fresh air and the scent of anxiety cedars is your jam, you’re going to feel right at home at Cotton Tail– we sure did!

2- Amazing Amenities

The cottage is located within a nostalgic, sixty-acre recreational gated community that offers first class amenities for the entire family to enjoy, which we definitely took advantage of.

During our visit, we spent the majority of our time at the 10,000-square foot amenity building, which is home to two swimming pools, two hot tubs, a gym, clubhouse and more.

3- The Cottage

This gorgeous two-bedroom, one-level holiday cottage sleeps five and has everything you need to enjoy your stay. Forget about packing pots, pans, board games, linens, etc, as this place is fully loaded.

As we turned the key to enter and stepped inside, all of our jaws hit the floor.

“Wow, this place is nicer than our own house!” said Molly.

“Can we live her???” chimed Zoe.

I couldn’t blame them — this cottage is spacious, modern and tastefully decorated.

Inside boasts an open floor plan, reclaimed hardwood flooring throughout, vaulted ceilings, river rock fireplace and all new furnishings.

My mom shared the queen-sized bed in the master bedroom with Molly, while Zoe and I slept in our own twin beds in the second bedroom.

4- Local Adventure Awaits

If you’re feeling adventurous, there’s plenty to do just outside the big iron gates of this recreational community. There are trails for hiking or biking, boat rental facilities for those wanting to cruise the open water in a kayak, canoe, paddle board or jet ski, award-winning golf courses and two of the Valley’s largest family theme parks — Cultus Lake Water Park and Cultus Lake Adventure Park.

Cultus Lake is a 640 acre Provincial Park, the closest Provincial Park southeast of Vancouver, and is one of the most popular destination areas in the Lower Mainland. The freshwater lake is 12km in length. Local activities include hiking, biking, kayaking, canoeing, sport fishing, horseback riding, picnics, golf and more.  Close-by farming includes blueberries, vineyards, Christmas Trees and lavender.

5- The Perfect Place to Unplug

No TV? No problem. We enjoyed there days of screen-free time relaxing on the oversized deck, while watching the humming birds and butterflies fly by, strolling down to the pond to visit the resident swan, lounging by the pool and playing board games and cards after sunset.

I felt completely comfortable letting my girls roam the gated property, where they met plenty of children their own age. It’s quiet, safe and immaculately kept. We loved our evening walks to see all the different cottages lit up at night. It was just like living in a Norman Rockwell painting.

This is the perfect getaway in the countryside to recharge and reconnect with your loved ones and yourself.
